Summer Maintenance

Home maintenance tips for the summer

The summer season is an excellent opportunity to take care of home maintenance. If you don’t know where to start, we have a list of tasks to prepare it for the rest of the season and the chilly months that follow.

Replace furnace filters

Keep the air in your home healthy by using HEPA filters. These filters help you avoid clogs, reduce allergy symptoms and ensure that the heat is ready to go without issues once the colder days arrive.

Avoid pests

During the summer, pests not only have more time to feed, they also seek cold environments to live in and cool off.

For this reason, we encourage checking your home’s exterior for potential pest entry points such as holes or cracks around the window and door frames, holes in venting, tears in window and door screens, as well as cracks in window and doorstep foundations.

You can also use a quick spritz of outdoor bug spray around the perimeter of your house and yards to prevent uninvited bugs and ants from coming to your home.

Check for leaks

Our city’s winter conditions are the perfect conditions to damage appliances. Therefore, we recommend checking the dishwasher, faucets, toilets and showerheads for potential leaks. When the temperature drops in the upcoming months, you’ll be grateful you prepared now.

Clean, clean

Need we say more? Cleaning is crucial to maintain and care for your home. In this season particularly, first take care of the exterior elements of your home such as the roof, gutters and downspouts, and then move to the interior, including windows and window screens, refrigerators, and more.

To avoid feeling overwhelmed, try dedicating a couple of hours to cleaning every week instead of cleaning everything all at once.

Prepare your outdoor spaces

Whether you have a spacious deck or a small balcony, you can use it to take advantage of the season and soak in some sun.

Tidy your space by removing twigs, branches, or leaves from past seasons before bringing out the patio furniture. Don’t forget to clean it either, so it looks better and it’s more comfortable for your guests.

To make your space more fun, consider adding greens (some of the season’s veggies or your favourite plants) and additional lights to elevate the decoration.

By following this checklist, you’ll have some peace of mind and your home will be thankful for the TLC.
